The Rose Family created the “Tommy Rose” award to be awarded each year to the Racer that demostrates the most improvement and professionalism for the year. The award was created in loving memory of Tommy Rose, whom was killed during a sport class race in 2002 when his aircraft impacted the ground.

“Tommy was a great friend and a wonderful competitor. It is a great honor to be the first to receive this award,” says Mike Dacey after receiving his award.

Mike Dacey has been racing at Reno since the Sport Class was created and has encountered his unfair share of mishaps and adventures along the way. Mr. Dacey has developed his flying skills and has demostrated continued resolve to improving the performance of his aircraft in the face of several accidents and many mechanical challenges. Mr. Dacey’s persistance has paid off this year by his consistant 2nd place finish in his highly modifed Questair Venture, Race 71.
The real honor in the “Tommy Rose Airmen Achievement Award” is that is awarded to the racer by the governing body of the sport class, comprised of fellow racers that are determined to preserve the safety and competitive nature of the class.
Congratulations Mike, from everyone in the class!
